ELECTRONICS & INSTRUMENTATION ENGINEERING
The Department of E&I initiated in the year 2014 and KCT became an Institutional Life Member of Instrumentation Society of India (ISOI).
National Symposium on Instrumentation (NSI-40)
The National Symposium on Instrumentation is an annual flagship event of ISOI. The ISOI has been founded in the year 1971 and this symposium held in Coimbatore was fortieth (40) in its series. The symposium organizers (ISOI) selected the venue of Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) after much deliberation and sought the feedback from the organizers about the connectivity and infrastructure availability for conducting the symposium.
The symposium technical committee selected over 110 technical papers in the area of Instrumentation for oral presentation. The symposium had arranged for parallel technical sessions to accommodate all these technical papers. The ISOI also had Prof. Sathish Dhawan Memorial Lecture in remembrance as the founder member of the society and the technical program committee had invited Prof. V. Ram Gopal Rao (Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay) for this memorial lecture. Also, for Prof. M. Ramakrishna Rao Endowment Lecture (founder secretary of the society), they invited Prof. A. Subrahmanyam (Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras), for this endowment lecture. Other than these two technical talks, the program committee had invited two eminent industrialists in the area of Instrumentation and allied areas. First among them is Dr. Vasant Kini, Managing Director of Titanium Industries, Bangalore. The second one is Ms. R. Mahalakshmi, Deputy General Manager of Yokogawa India Limited.
Dr. B. K. Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, Chairman of the Kumaraguru College of Technology, inaugurated the symposium. Mr. K. R. S. R. Krishna, Vice-President of Petrofac Engineering Services India Limited, delivered the inaugural address. The symposium also had ISOI Fellows induction ceremony, where eminent scientists working in the area of Instrumentation, had been inducted as Fellows of the society. Eleven of such Fellows had shared their experiences during that ceremony.

The symposium also honored Prof. K. B. R. Varma (Vice-Chancellor of Sri Sathya Sai University) with an ISOI life-time achievement award during the symposium in recognition of his contributions to the area of Instrumentation in India. Also, for the first time, the society (ISOI) had selected Prof. Sai Siva Gorthi (Department of Instrumentation and Applied Physics, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore) for its young scientist award. He also delivered the ISOI young scientist award lecture, highlighting his contributions to the area of point of care diagnostics.
The symposium had an active debate about preparing students for working in the area of instrumentation and requested all participants to develop soft and spoken skills to make them more marketable for jobs in instrumentation.
The symposium participants, eminent invited speakers, and the fellows of Instrument Society of India felt that training the area of Instrumentation needed to be strengthened by reinforcing the learning techniques and hands-on experiments.
There were 100 students enrolled as Members of ISOI and 3 faculty members enrolled as Life Members of ISOI during this assessment period. Many Guest Speakers were invited from the society to address the students and faculty as a part of the professional society activities.
