The Department has a team of well qualified, dedicated Faculty members with vast experience in industrial and research background. The Department is involved in active Industrial consultancy services for neighbouring Industries in the field of Automation. Certified Calibration for Electro-Technical/Thermal/Pressure Instruments are some of the prominent consultancy services. Major and minor projects funded by government bodies and Industries are focused on solving industrial needs. Our association with the Professional bodies ISA, ISOI, IEEE, ISTE, IEI and CSI is playing a significant role in enriching the quality of curriculum.

Stiff competition, higher quality standards and growing concerns of safety and environmental concern have pushed the Industrial sector to adopt state-of-the-art Automation techniques for effective utilization of resources and optimized performance of the process plants. The recent trend of merging control systems associated with both factory and process Automation demands knowledge from diverse fields. Automation applications extent plant Automation, discrete and batch process control, embedded machine control and manufacturing production line Automation. They include Automation of time-critical systems that demand precise real-time readings and control. Qualified Automation engineers are needed to meet these requirements of designing appropriate Automation systems. Specific knowledge in diversified fields such as PC / PLC based Control, Instrumentation, H/W, S/W, Networking, Industrial AC Drives, Machine Vision, DCS, SCADA / HMI, High-speed data acquisition, RTOS etc., are needed to become a successful Automation engineer. Ultimately the need of the hour is to upgrade their skills for Industry-ready engineers.

From HOD’s Desk

I feel proud to introduce the Department of Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering, one of the youngest departments of KCT, established in the year 2006. Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering is a specialized branch of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, which focuses on the principle and operation of field instruments SCADA, DCS, PLC’S and process control systems which are used in design and configuration of automated systems. These engineers work in industries with automated processes, such as chemical or manufacturing plants, with the goal of improving system productivity, reliability, safety, optimization and stability.

Within a short period, we have established all our laboratories and centres of excellence, which are required for the curriculum and several specialized equipment and software, which help the students to do their real time projects. We have a dedicated faculty team who strive for excellence in all what they do and help students gain knowledge by way of teaching, by demonstration, by industrial visits and by way of assignments. Instrumentation Engineering is a multi-disciplinary field wherein there is a great scope for students to pursue their higher studies or career in the streams of Electronics, Instrumentation or Control.

Nature of work of an Instrumentation Engineer ranges from designing, developing, installing, managing equipment’s that are used to monitor and control machinery and processes. We have placed our students in core industries like Yokogawa, Bosch, Data Patterns, TVS, Tesolve, Saipem, ECON, etc. Many of our alumni have successfully cracked CAT and GATE to gain entrance into the high portals of higher education. Also, we have our students pursuing their higher studies in US, UK, Germany, and Australia.

We in our department are constantly striving to update our curriculum and syllabus to incorporate technical advancements in the fields of electronics, instrumentation and control through interacting with industry personnel.

Value added programs like hands-on session/workshop/guest lectures by academicians and industry experts are being provided on a regular basis.

As Scott Adams rightly puts it, “Engineers like to solve problems. If there are no problems handily available, they will create their own problems”, we try to instil confidence in our students to search for problems in industries & society and try to give solutions for it.
