About the Department

The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering was started in the year 1987 with the idea of equipping young people with the necessary technical knowledge and professional skills needed to address the challenges in the rapidly growing field of Electronics and Communication Engineering and promoting research in this area. In the world of Smartphones, this department has a very significant role to play. Instigate an eye for detail inside the minds of youngsters and there is they come up with a lot of innovation in electronics. For this mission, the Department is fully equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories such as DSP, VLSI, Optical & Microwave, and RF/Communication.

Electronics & Communication Engineering Department is a dynamic and vibrant department with about 38 highly qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty members. There are 7 professors,7 Associate Professors and 24 Assistant professors. The department also have 10 supporting staffs.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

PEO 1: Graduates will be successful as Professionals, Researchers or Entrepreneurs in Electronics, Information and Communication Engineering disciplines. 

PEO 2: Graduates will continuously be updated with the state-of the art technology through formal and informal education to provide sustainable solutions. 

PEO 3: Graduates will demonstrate ethical and social responsibilities as an individual and in a team of diverse culture.


Program Outcomes (POs)

1. Engineering Knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

2. Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences.

3. Design/Development of Solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

4. Conduct Investigations of Complex Problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions for complex problems.

5. Modern Tool Usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

6. The Engineer and Society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

7. Environment and Sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.

9. Individual and Team Work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.

10. Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.

11. Project Management and Finance:  Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

12. Life-long Learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and lifelong learning in the broadest context of technological change.

Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs)

Graduates of the Electronics and Communication Engineering Programme will have the ability to:

PSO1: Analyze and Design, verify and validate VLSI Systems by selecting appropriate hardware and software tools.

PSO2: Design, develop and validate inter disciplinary products/ process by applying the knowledge and skills of Embedded Systems, Signal Processing, Electromagnetics and Communication Engineering.

The department of ECE, since its inception in the year 1986, has been at the forefront of imparting quality education to students. The outstanding achievements of our students in both national and international arena are the evidence of the quality of engineers produced by the department. The faculty members, state-of the art laboratories and continuous updating of curriculum and syllabi are helping us to perform better at the national level and produce globally competent graduates.

The Department has 15 laboratories, a separate Department Library, a Seminar Hall, adequate class rooms and other facilities. Laboratories are equipped with hardware, computers and software packages such as Matlab, Metrowind, OPTSIM, Xilinx ISE, Cadfeko, and Cadence. To conduct quality research and enable the students to learn experientially in Signal Processing and Embedded Systems, the department has collaborated with Texas Instruments, USA and established a Centre of Excellence (CoE). The students are encouraged to participate in co-curricular and extra-curricular events at the National level and they bring laurels to the institution.  The faculty members are encouraged to enhance their knowledge by attending Faculty Development programs in premier institutions. They publish quality research work in reputed journals and international and national conferences.  Along with students, faculty members also files patents.

The Department is an Anna University recognized center for pursuing research leading to PhD and MS.  The department has received various research grants from funding agencies such as AICTE (under MODROBS/RPS), UGC, ISRO, DRDO, etc. The Curriculum is regularly upgraded to prepare industry ready graduates. Various teaching- learning methodologies such as active learning, project-based learning, inter disciplinary projects have been implemented to improve the learning of our students.  Moreover, to encourage the self-learning, two of our labs are open for 24/7. These teaching methods not only improve their knowledge but also skills and attitude which will eventually help our students to pursue their career in research, employment in core industries and also be entrepreneurs. In a nutshell, the Institution and the Department are committed to produce employable and competent engineers for the 4th industrial revolution and serve the society and the engineering profession.
